Can a game help people reduce procrastination?

Initial Mind Mapping

I started researching on the term procrastination in order to understand the root causes for it and the problems associated with the it.

I narrowed down my focusing area towards the training and practice required for focusing in the particular task which really can reduce the chances of chronic procrastination

Scenario - New Normal

The effectiveness of online learning varies amongst age groups. The general consensus on children, especially younger ones, is that a structured environment is required because kids are more easily distracted.

Can I help teenagers to be focused and self-regulated through a game?

Secondary Reseach

I came across this term called Scatter focus which is nothing but what we think while doing an unfocused task like taking a shower. This scatter focus actually helps us generate more ideas.

Studied several focusing and productivity techniques from which Pomodoro technique is often used in all the focusing apps nowadays.

System Metaphor

It all starts with what you are thinking and choosing the right thought will connect your conscious attention and automatically starts to scatter focusing on the task you want to do.

Can I improve the thought process and help teenagers to be more focused in this housebound situation through an experience?

Design Solution

  • An Exercise which allows you to wander in your house with an intention to wander in your thoughts.

  • This experience is like as if you are playing the hopscotch game, but with your floor tiles instead.

  • The idea is to make you relax after a long online sessions, if you stare at the same screen for a long time, you focus gets disturbed and you won't get any bright ideas.

Red Highlights records your spot mood, and all that data is used to generate a wandering path for you.

In case of locked rooms in your home, you can block those rooms in the app also, the generated path will avoid that room.

Steps to use app

  • Scan your home using line tool in the AR app which will generate a typical floor plan of your house.

  • Track down the highlighted tiles, walk down on it and stay for a while. Select what you feel from the options at that particular spot.

  • So this above process will make a mood library of the spots at your place.

  • Based on the above data, it will generate a walk flow path.

  • This walk path will update as per the mood you select every time you open the app.

  • The background music will also update be as per your mood.

Thank you for your time!
